Learning volumes

As I have said before, we should teach students in a dynamic way taking into account their interests. For this reason, I have chosen during all my blog video resources. As I see it, it is the best way to cath the attention of students. Students can learn at the same time they are watching a video. After that, they can explore by themselves the contents thay they have acquired. To finish that blog, I would like to talk about Volume and how to calculate it. On this video, we can see some contents about volume. I think it is quite interesting because it is really good explained. In addition, I recommend you seeing that page because it is really interesting. Talking about volumes they will learn some resources but it is not only a page about that. You can find whatever you want to teach and a lot of ideas of how to teach it.  http://www.teachingideas.co.uk/subjects/volume  To conclude, obviously, teaching with dynamic resources is better than use the traditiona

Polyhedron

Talking about polyhedron we could consider it a little bit difficult issue to teach to students. Nevertheless, it isn't if you do it in a funny way. But you will think.. how could I do it? Students would be more interested in that topic if we teach them in a manipulative way. It isn't difficult to understand because we know that they learn better when they experience their learning. On the video below, you can find out a good resource to teach polyhedron. Students would forget that they are learning. I mean, they will enjoy the activity at the same time they are learning new contents. In addition, linked with polyhedron, we could teach learners some prisms with the same resources. In fact, we could use recyle paper to do it, in order to teach them the importance of recyling. As we know, there are different kinds of prisms so we have to teach them with different tools. I suggest you to teach them with manipulative and theorical resources. In this sheet, we can see

Learning areas with a video

Imagen
During the class we have been talking about the importance of the area. For this reason, I have considered this topic such as one of the most important of Geometry.  This is the reason why I have decided to search for information about this topic.  We can find out a lot of resources on Internet about that. However, I thought that the best way to teach that will be a video. If you have a look to it, you will find an interesting explication about areas and how to calculate it. It is quite important to teach this contents to children because they will not consider the areas as an interesting thing to learn.

Learning trapezes with other resources

Imagen
Today I'm going to talk about trapezes. The idea is try to teach the contents by using manipulative resources. After that, we will give them some formulas but the main objective is make them know the figures in a dynamic way depending on the level in which we were working. The tangram is a good way to teach them some concepts about trapezes. In addition, it will increase their motivation due to the dynamic way in which they are learning.

Areas and perimetres. How could we teach them?

Imagen
First of all, we have been watching a video in which they explained that the best way to explain areas and perimeters is the use of manipulative resources. When we work with this kind of tools, we can develop our knowledge due to our interest in learning. This way, we are focused on manipulate objects but we forget we are learning at the same time. With the use of some videos, we will catch the attention of our students. For example, we will show them this video  With a song, they can better learn the contents. However... Why students are confused with areas and perimeters? Because they have more difficulties in the sizes of contour than the sizes of the area. We will show them a summary about perimeters and areas.

Movement. How could we teach it?

Imagen
In the mathematical world we can find out some troubles to deal with. This kind of problem will  be presented in our daily-life and we have to search resources to deal with them. For this reason, we have to connect Maths with real world with the purpose of create in students a critical thought as Abdelfatah (2011) says.  This type of link allows the learning by experience. It is not a memoristic knowledge and we don't have to remember formulas: it is a significant learning based on experience so they are more motivated. In addition, it is interesting because improve our curiosity.  At the same time we were talking about Maths and connections, we were talking about movement.  How could we explain it to children? Taking into account my Piktochart, we could explain symmetry and traslations. This is a picture about it, but you will find it here: https://magic.piktochart.com/infographic/saved/22663196  It is a good way of teaching movement in a plane. I would like to use i

Geometry and society

Imagen
We talked about Q-Methodology according to the text that we have been reading.  During the classes I have been thinking what Geometry is. However, I have no a specific definition of geometry because, as we have been talking during all classes, mathematics is an abstract concept.  Nevertheless, I know the importance of Maths and I consider everybody should knows that. This is the reason why I have been thinking about what we could do as teachers to increase this thought in our classes.  However, I think it is not only a problem about students, it is too a problem about society.  I recommend you to see the following video, in order to take into account the importance of Maths.
